The State of Skill-Based Learning 2026
What the data says
We looked at anonymized, aggregated telemetry across thousands of pathways to find out what separates learners who finish from those who stall.
Key findings
- Shorter modules win. Pathways with modules under 25 minutes saw 38% higher completion.
- Branching beats linear. Learners who branched into side-quests returned more often.
- Early momentum matters most. Completing the first three modules in week one predicted finishing the whole path.
Methodology
All data was anonymized and aggregated. No individual learner records were used. The sample spans pathways created between June 2025 and April 2026.
What it means for you
If you're designing a pathway, front-load quick wins and keep modules short. Momentum compounds.
